The Islanders and coach Barry Trotz are lying in wait for the winner of the Capitals and Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference semifinals. And while Trotz led Washington to the Stanley Cup last Chris Osgood Jersey year, he won't hold anything back if he faces them in the playoffs this year. "Do I want to beat them? Absolutely, 100 percent, because I want to have the same experience and win the Stanley Cup with this group," Trotz told the on Thursday. Trotz was not retained by the Capitals after leading the team to their first championship in franchise history. He ultimately signed to lead the Islanders and led them to a first round sweep of the Penguins this year. Back in November he almost prophetically called the series but wasn't going to concede a Capitals win. "You can do it again too," Trotz said at the team's ring ceremony on Nov. 26. "You'll have to go through the fing Island, okay? But you guys can do it again." Trotz holds no ill-will toward the Capitals for not retaining him, but he will by no means have his team hold anything back in a potential second-round matchup. "The bonds that I have with the people on the other side, that is undeniable when you win championships," Trotz said Friday, via the . "Those bonds are forever, theyre not something that goes away. Ive probably spent more time with 95 percent of their players than I have my own team. That doesnt go away, but when you drop the puck, it does go away. It does. Yeah, theres things that you remember and all that, but trust me, Im going to want to beat em as bad as they want to beat me. The Capitals are tied with the Hurricanes in their first-round series 2-2. Washington lost forward T.J. Oshie to an injury and recalled Devante Smith-Pelly to replace the 32-year-old who is out indefinitely. Trotz is keeping an eye on the series but won't let his past with the team affect any way he looks at it. Im not looking back. I dont regret anything. Im looking forward," Trotz said. "Im looking forward to the competition of whoever we play." The Islanders' sweep of the Penguins was the team's first four-game series win over an opponent since the 1983 Stanley Cup Final.
