There's being good. There's being lucky. Then, there's the Columbus Blue Jackets. As one of the NHL's most snakebitten franchises, Jackets' fans generally don't have much to cheer for. Columbus has been allergic to building winning teams around generational talents from Rick Nash to Sergei Bobrovsky. Some thought that could change come Monday's draft lottery. After all, it was the Blue Jackets who had the second-best odds at landing Connor Bedard, a center prospect whose slick skating, soft hands and wicked wrist shot has earned him Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid comparisons. MORE: The proceedings went about as well as Columbus could have hoped for through the opening 20 minutes or so. The picks dwindled down and followed the pre-lottery odds, as expected. Gary Harris Jersey But then, it was time for the final three picks to be revealed. Things did not go as well after that. But luckily, ESPN host Kevin Weekes saved Blue Jackets fans from minutes of distre s by revealing that Columbus would have the No. 3 selection in the NHL Draft. That was despite the fact that the Blue Jackets' card had not actually been shown. Check it out: Quite the snafu here during ESPN's Draft Lottery broadcast. Host Kevin Weekes announces that the Columbus Blue Jackets are drafting third. Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) That's... not great. It was a bizarre moment, that spawned plenty of . The jig was up once ESPN returned from its commercial break, with Columbus soon being shown to have, indeed, lost the Bedard sweepstakes. Only, the actual pick wasn't revealed until after a commercial break. Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) How anti-climactic. ESPN's attempt at a dramatic draft reveal came up desperately short, filled with awkward silence, rigidity and one awkward Bedard interview. But at least we have this: another glorious example of the Blue Jackets' impre sive levels of futility. Oh, and we can't forget about the memes. God save the memes. Us being the first team to drop and the broadcast being so me sed up is the most Blue Jackets thing to ever happen. dani smith (@thedanismith) nothing is more nhl than kevin weekes spoiling the draft order and proving the draft lottery is rigged by accidentally announcing that the blue jackets dropped to third n (@davidsonfc) that was all so weird, like we didn't see that about the Blue Jackets and they just casually mentioned it lol marisa ingemi (@Marisa_Ingemi) Michael Porter Jersey
