The Sabres announced early Monday morning their intent to place veteran forward Matt Moulson on waivers, the latest -- and perhaps final -- fall from grace for the former 30-goal scorer. It is not a surprise the struggling Sabres -- last overall in the NHL with only six wins and 16 points under first-year coach Phil Housley -- cut ties with Moulson. In 14 appearances this season, he did not record a single point and was scratched in seven of the last nine games. The former first-line winger saw his ice-time fall to an average of 10:17per game this season, ranging from a low of 6:25 toan early-season one-game high of 19:45. His most recentgoal was March 20 in Detroit against the Red Wings. It was with the Islanders that Moulson notched three-consecutive 30-goal seasons earlier in the decade. Riding shotgun with superstar center John Tavares, Moulson had seasons of 30, 31 anda career-high 36 goals from 2009-10 through 2011-12. He scored 31 power play goals in that stretch, including 14 in 2011-12. Two years later he was traded twice, from the Islanders to the Sabres and then on to the Wild, scoring 23 goals in the proce s. He has not reached 20 goals since. Last season, Moulson scored 14 goals, 11 on the power play. This year, he was unable to even achieve succe s on the power play, where 64 of his 176 career goals came. Moulson, 34, has the fifth-highest salary cap hit on the Sabres at $5 million. He is under contract through next season. A suming Moulson clears waivers, he will be a signed to Rochester of the AHL. He last played in the minors in 2008-09 as part of the Kings organization.
