Maple Leafs neglected job of keeping players healthy and now they keep getting injurie
The are not having a good season. Injuries aren't the only culprit, but they're a big part of the story, and part of the way the Leafs got here feels quite avoidable. that came out Thursday in which he breaks down how changes in the Maple Leafs' personnel may have led to this bad season of injuries. Last summer, writes Siegel, Eloy Jimenez Jersey the Leafs saw their performance director Rich Rotenberg (in charge of medical, strength and conditioning, and rehabilitation) leave for the . Their man under him was Sachin Raina, whose title was sports scientist, and he followed Rotenberg to Pittsburgh. MORE: The Maple Leafs didn't fill either role. "Injuries have been a major sore spot for the team this season," Siegel writes. "The relatively high age of the group and a compre sed schedule due to the Olympics have both likely played a part in that." Siegel then quotes the Leafs' first director of performance, Jeremy Bettle, who had been with Toronto from 2015 through 2019. You cannot have injury-free seasons the way theyre currently set up, Bettle told Siegel. And thats no knock on anyone in particular it just doesnt work. According to Siegel, the Leafs have lost nearly 200 games this season due to injury, which ranks eighth in the NHL. Chris Tanev, Brandon Carlo, Anthony Stolarz and William Nylander are among those battling injuries. MORE: A recent game in which Nylander made an NSFW gesture at a broadcast camera overshadowed the fact that injured Nylander was in quite the crowded suite filled with injured Leafs. In the end, the staffing may not be the only reason for the bad injury fortune, but it sure seems like an odd choice. More NHL news: Burch Smith Jersey
